Meetup Concept & Nounish Values

I plan to organize The BaD Hundred - BuildaDAO Nounish Buildathons - 4-day collaborative building experiences that embody the core Nounish values of community, creativity, and positive impact. These aren't just hackathons; they're carefully curated experiences where builders create market-ready projects while giving back to the Nounish ecosystem.

Our Philosophy: "Say web3 without saying web3" - we focus on building solutions that matter, using universal values that align perfectly with the Nounish ethos of doing good with no expectation of return and creating positive externalities.

Event Structure

The BaD Hundred - Annual Program Commitment We are committing to run this program for a full year, with one buildathon every month for 12 months.

Nairobi Buildathons (Monthly)

  • Venue: ALX co-working space (tentative, based on availability)
  • Capacity: 100 builders
  • Format: Thursday evening kickoff → Friday-Saturday building → Sunday deployment & competition
  • Frequency: One buildathon every month for 12 months

Mombasa Finale (Monthly)

  • Venue: Private villa accommodation
  • Capacity: Top 20 winners from Nairobi
  • Focus: Intensive collaboration and project refinement
  • Frequency: Monthly finale following each Nairobi buildathon

Community Engagement

Nounish Celebration Elements

Daily Nounish Rituals:

  • Thursday Kickoff: "Noggles Ceremony" - all participants receive printed Noggles to wear during brainstorming sessions
  • Friday Building: "Absurd Hour" - dedicated time for the most creative, wild ideas that embrace difference
  • Saturday Sprint: "Good Vibes Check-ins" - teams share what positive impact their project will create
  • Sunday Demo: "Celebration of Weird" - special recognition for most creative and absurd solutions

Nounish Project Standards: Our strict project manager ensures every project meets core Nounish requirements:

  • Include a "positive externality" component that benefits the broader community
  • Demonstrate how the project "does good with no expectation of return"
  • Show how the solution teaches people about decentralized values in accessible ways
  • Embrace difference by serving underrepresented communities

Physical Nounish Culture:

  • Printed Noggles for all 100+ participants each month
  • Colorful, playful workspace decorations
  • "Noun of the Day" recognition for embodying Nounish values
  • Group photos with everyone wearing Noggles at both Nairobi and Mombasa events

Mombasa Community Service: During the Mombasa finale, the top 20 builders participate in community service activities, embodying the Nounish value of giving back to local communities while building together.

How We Embody Nounish Values

  1. Inclusive Space: Welcoming developers of all skill levels, with mentorship and collaborative team formation
  2. Community Good: Every project includes a component that gives back to the Nounish ecosystem
  3. Local Impact: Supporting local co-working spaces and businesses in both cities
  4. Educational Value: Teaching builders about decentralized values through hands-on experience
  5. Creative Spirit: Embracing both serious building and moments of play and discovery
  6. Positive Externalities: Creating market-ready solutions that benefit the broader community

Community Building

Past Community Organizing Experience

I have extensive experience organizing successful developer-focused events:

Degen Nights: Overnight coding sessions where developers built in collaborative environments, benefiting from shared ideas, debugging support, and expert mentorship. These events were successful because they combined serious building with community support.

BuildaDAO Events: Organized multiple Web3 development events, workshops, and community calls focused on onboarding Africans into the blockchain ecosystem.

Pizza Parties & Social Gatherings: Successfully curated diverse crowds from our developer community, demonstrating our ability to create inclusive, engaging environments.

Authentic Connections

Logistics & Venue Access

Nairobi: Working to secure access to ALX co-working space (tentative, based on availability) that can accommodate 100 builders for our monthly buildathons. We will confirm venue access before each buildathon.

Mombasa: Partnership with a villa host who will accommodate the top 20 finalists for intensive collaboration sessions.

Documentation: Professional photography and real-time social media documentation ensure complete transparency and community engagement.

Impact & Sustainability

Our 12-month program creates a sustainable cycle:

  1. Consistent Delivery: 12 buildathons over one year, ensuring regular community engagement
  2. Immediate Value: Market-ready projects launched every month
  3. Community Growth: New builders onboarded into the Nounish ecosystem monthly
  4. Economic Impact: Profits from successful projects contribute back to Nounish community growth
  5. Knowledge Transfer: Experienced builders mentor newcomers throughout the year
  6. Regional Expansion: Proven model can scale across East Africa after successful year

We're not just organizing meetups - we're building a movement that embodies Nounish values while creating tangible impact in the African developer ecosystem.
